The flexibility of in-home or online tutoring plays a major role in accommodating diverse learning environments and individual needs of students. In-home or online provides a personalized approach, allowing students to learn in the comfort of their own home. This type of setting could significantly reduce anxiety and distractions, fostering a environment conducive to learning.
What is your policy regarding charges for cancelled sessions?
Cancellations can be made up to one hour before the scheduled appointment. No charge for cancelled or missed sessions.
What qualifications do tutors at Brainiac possess to ensure effective tutoring?
Our professional tutors possess a diverse array of qualifications that are essential for ensuring effective tutoring in an enriching learning environment. Each tutor is required to have earned a bachelor's degree or higher.
What curriculum do you use?
Our tutors follow the curriculum your child is utilizing at school, whenever possible.
How will the tutor coordinate with my child’s teacher(s)?
The coordination between the tutor and your child's teacher(s) is essential for fostering a cohesive learning experience via email and/or phone. We will need a signed authorization form on file granting us permission to communicate with the teacher(s) before any contact is made.
What alternatives are available if a child expresses dissatisfaction with his/her current tutor?
When your child expresses dissatisfaction with one of our tutors, it is imperative for the responsible adult to contact us immediately to seek a different tutor or reach out to the alternative tutor.
Is there a standard waiting period at Brainiac to request a tutor?
No standard waiting period. We request that you give our tutors at least 24 hours to contact you to discuss their backgrounds and availability.
Do you tutor adult learners for the GED/HiSET or other tutorial services?
Yes, adult learners who are currently enrolled in accredited testing centers, schools or online district-approved programs will be charged a slightly higher rate.
What types of assessments are available for evaluating a child's abilities?
Evaluating a child's abilities and achievements is a critical aspect of his/her development progress and determining areas requiring additional support. Most of our tutors will offer a basic assessment for reading and/or math at no charge. There is a paid assessment for reading and math available upon request. Overall, we receive input from parents, guardians and/or teachers in assessing areas in need of improvement across various subjects.
What is the minimum number of sessions per month recommended for standard/basic tutoring?
We recommend purchasing a minimum of 8 sessions per child. It usually takes that amount of time to see a measurable difference in your child’s classroom assignments and grades. In addition, some children will improve with 10 or more sessions per month depending on their learning levels or if they are not passing classes.
How many sessions do you recommend per month for ACT, digital SAT or other standardized test tutoring?
We recommend purchasing at least 8 -10 sessions per month of service to properly prepare for taking standardized tests. It is best to purchase one of our package deals for specialty services such as standardized test preparation (ACT or digital SAT).
If you prefer less than 5 sessions per month or you prefer not to purchase a package deal, you have the option of selecting our pay-as-you-go plan at a slightly higher rate. Please note that our standardized test tutors will provide assessments, plan of action and practice tests for all standardized test prep services.
Can you help me with home-schooling?
Yes, ff your child is not attending some classes in a school building or failing more than one online class or subject, the rate could be slightly higher.
Can you help my child online with homework?
Yes, we are offering online tutoring via our various educational portals during Eastern Standard Time (EST). We do our best to accommodate your time zone when scheduling online tutoring sessions.
What about tutoring for small groups?
Yes, we can provide tutorial services to small groups at local schools with proper authorization or the home of one of the students in the group (depending on availability), or online group sessions (best option).
How do you monitor my child’s progress?
Our tutors will give you verbal or written feedback based on session notes after each session upon request. Also, they may ask you to contact your child’s teacher(s) to determine whether the assessment/educational goals are being met.
Do I have to sign a contract?
No, you are encouraged to read our guidelines and policies before enrolling for any tutorial services, including free sessions. Once tutoring starts, you are expected to abide by our Terms of Service and Payment Policy to prevent late fees and/or interruption in services.
